Job Description
Manufacturing Engineer (Quality) - Gateshead - up to £35k

This is a crucial role to our business, your commercial awareness together with your manufacturing process implementations experience will act as a strong foundation to your success in this role and to fulfilling the future vision and growth of our business. As Manufacturing Engineer, you will have the ability to understand complex problems and devise logical, simple but robust solutions within Gateshead manufacturing facility communicating these to all functional teams and disciplines across our business.
 
You will be open to personal development and career progression with a view to developing your commercial & management skills as well as your manufacturing knowledge into becoming a subject matter expert and leader of our manufacturing methods.
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Review current manufacturing processes or process inputs with a view to ensuring uniformity and standardization.
  • Work with the various cross functional teams to continuously improve and maintain manufacturing processes.
  • Generation and on-going maintenance of standard operating procedures for the manufacturing, assembly and testing processes.
  • Problem solve product or process issues. Investigate problems to identify root causes and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Provide support for the introduction of new facilities and equipment.
  • Provide support in external audits (Certification body/Customer/Supplier).
  • Provide support to procurement with technical vendor enquiries on legacy product and definition of process with new products.
  • Create rejection documents/notifications and assist with concessions applications.
  • Lead, develop and improve the manufacturing processes using best industry practice to produce.
  • Develop, manage and maintain information and models (KPI data/charts) to monitor performance trends across the business.
  • Lead quality circles to guide and empower employees to identify improvements thereby adopting change more readily.  
  • Apply 8D methodology to resolve problems and make improvements.
  • Support, advise and influence engineering with design for manufacturing activities.
  • Lead and support the manufacturing and engineering operations on non-conformance assessment.
  • Lead and support the manufacturing assembly processes with build & test issue resolution.
  • Lead and support manufacturing with CNC machine & tooling requirements and issue resolution on new or legacy product.
  • Stay abreast and drive the site to invest and implement the latest technology for machining methods and tooling.
  • Actively participate in the promotion of HSE awareness and demonstrate management commitment.
  • Perform internal audits as required.
Qualifications
 
Qualifications: 
 
Essential:
 
Tertiary education, such as HNC /HND, in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent discipline. 
 
CAM Manufacture
 
Desirable:
 
Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
 
Experience:
 
Essential:
  • Experience in a similar position.
  • Proven experience in the successful. application of Lean and CI techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver cost reduction and operational performance results.
  • Working knowledge of Mechanical/CAD design.
Desirable:
  • Experience of working within a manufacturing business operating a manufacturing production system i.e. TPS.
  • Working knowledge of low volume high variance manufacturing.
Skills, training or special knowledge:
 
Essential:
  • Computer literacy (including good command of Microsoft Excel).
  • Working knowledge ERP systems & Mechanical/CAD systems.
  • Able to provide clear and structured methodologies making things simple for others to understand and replicate.
  • Change champion with the skill to impart enthusiasm and desire for continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes including, welding, castings, CNC machining, product inspection, mechanical assembly.
  • Flexible to travel 10% of the time.
