Purpose of the Role

Responsible for creating and optimising the way in which our products are manufactured ensuring the highest level of quality, affordability and efficiency by preparing accurate machine operation time estimates for the manufacture of complex machined components to support new special purpose machine build and spares.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of detailed machine operation time estimates for the manufacture of machined components.
  • Identification and supply chain sourcing of: raw materials, bought out parts and sub-contract processing to meet demand.
  • Calculating manufacturing hours utilising various cost models.
  • Identification of methods and techniques to reduce manufacturing times.
  • Provide support to the project team regarding active tenders.
  • Updating and maintaining outsourced KPI data.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Establish and maintain controls to ensure tracking of all component parts from ordering stock through to delivery of finished parts.
  • Ensure smooth logistics and minimise order to delivery lead time identifying improvements in efficiency.
  • Prepare accurate forecasts to ensure maximum availability of component parts
  • Comply with the management system requirements for Health and Safety, Environment and Quality.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and tasks as required.

Key Skills

  • Experienced estimator / manufacturing engineer with a strong CNC machining background.
  • Fully conversant with modern manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience of machining precision components parts.
  • Good working knowledge of CAD CAM systems.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to deliver multiple requirements concurrently to demanding timescales.
  • Good commercial awareness particularly when dealing with external suppliers
  • Must be dynamic, enthusiastic with excellent communication skills with the ability to fit into a multi-functional team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Ability to provide quality information within deadlines.
  • Proactive interaction with other functions.
  • Attention to detail.


  • At least 5 years manufacturing experience in a similar or relevant environment.
  • Minimum HNC qualified in mechanical engineering discipline (Desirable).
